How to have beautiful wood floors

Hardwood flooring is an investment like no other. It adds richness, warmth, and elegance to a home. Wood floors are timeless, fitting into any decor and never going out of style. Hardwood comes in a wide array of domestic and exotic species, but the most popular are oak, maple, cherry, walnut, and hickory. It can be sanded up to six times and will last for decades.

At Taylors Flooring we are a wood flooring retailer. We know a good installation, not just product, affects appearance, performance, and longevity, so we only hire the most skilled and experienced installers. Wood floors, especially, require special skills, tools, and an eye for detail. These floors are subfloor sensitive, so they require preparation and often repair. The floor itself has layers of installation: tongue and groove, then hammered and glued, then the coatings, which need accurate timing.

Hardwood, without water concerns

Engineered hardwood floors appeal to people who want both beauty and practicality.

The difference is in the construction. At the top is a slice of genuine wood species with all the knots, raised grains, swirls, and undertones for which these floors are known.

Underneath are three or more layers of genuine wood combined resin and positioned in a crosswise manner. The floor is more stable and better able to handle water. Since it doesn't shrink and expand to adjust to the weather, no acclimation is necessary. This installation also has the option of a floating floor technique where the pieces click together and hover over the subfloor with no staples or glue. These floors can be sanded up to five times, depending on thickness, and have been known to last 50+ years.

What are SPC floors?

This is an affordable and realistic mimic of hardwood. It’s vinyl cut into planks, but with a greater feeling of rigidity and stability. A technologically advanced core is composed of limestone powder and stabilizers, providing a solid, firm base for each plank. As in all vinyl, it's waterproof, durable, and easy to care for. Add a gloss finish and you have wood-look floors that look like they came out of the design pages at a budget-friendly cost.
