Three different ways luxury vinyl flooring is installed

Installers love luxury vinyl because installation is always so fast and easy. For you, that translates to less expensive.

Whichever method you choose, any subfloor is acceptable. The only requirement is that it be clean, dry, and level.

The anatomy of luxury vinyl

The material comes in two forms. First, luxury vinyl plank is cut to resemble hardwood floorboards.
The other form refers to the material being cut into square, tiled-sized pieces. Again, we're told by many that the extra seams add to the realism.

Glue-down

This is as it sounds. It gets affixed to the subfloor and cannot be moved.

The floating floor with a clicking mechanism

The pieces click, mat, then hover over the subfloor without adhesives. The advantage here is that you can easily pick up the pieces to move them.

Be aware that luxury vinyl tile or plank has microscopic air holes so that it can expand in humidity. It's therefore highly recommended that the product be acclimated before installation.

Looselay

The pieces rely on their grip to attach to the subfloor. All the installer needs to do is walk around the room and place them.

This installation method makes it easy to pick up and reinstall the pieces.

Other benefits of luxury vinyl:

1. Style: This offers terrifically realistic images of wood, stone, and tile. The floors have depth, dimension, textured looks, and finishes.

2. Waterproof capabilities: LVT and LVP can be spilled on or submerged without damage.

3. Durability: Both come with a wear layer that protects the floor from scratches, scuffs, and dents.

4. Low maintenance: Only regular sweeping and periodic mopping are required.
